As an ESL teacher, I encouraged my students to read English novels and watch movies in English with subtitles. I recommended the romance genre since it involves every-day dialogue in realistic situations. I also had some students who were interested in science fiction. This genre has a radically different vocabulary, with extraordinary situations. The student should purchase The Year's Best Science Fiction (24th annual collection), printed by St. Martin's Griffin.
